by DTE Energy

Enrollment reinforces Dakkota’s commitment to improving quality of life for this generation and the next

DETROIT, June 20, 2023 DTE Energy (NYSE:DTE) and Dakkota Integrated Systems today announced Dakkota’s enrollment in MIGreenPower, DTE’s voluntary renewable energy program. The enrollment will attribute 100% of the electricity use at Dakkota’s Detroit location to DTE’s wind and solar parks, which has the environmental benefit equivalent to the carbon captured by more than 1,500 acres of forests annually.1

Dakkota, a Michigan-based automotive supplier, is one of the largest Native American woman-owned and led companies in the United States. The company provides best-in-class suspension and interior systems within the auto industry, competitively and profitably. Dakkota is focused on improving quality of life for their employees and the communities where they operate, which includes making Dakkota’s operations as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible.

“MIGreenPower provides a simple, flexible way of reducing our environmental impact – all at no additional cost to our business,” said Lori Lancaster, president, Dakkota. “Preserving and protecting the environment for future generations is an initiative we are passionate about and have prioritized as part of the automotive industry’s leadership in reducing greenhouse gases and creating a more sustainable future.”

Dakkota joins 15 automotive suppliers, as well as major automakers such as Ford Motor Company, Stellantis, and General Motors, who are using MIGreenPower to make their operations more sustainable.

“We are proud to play such an important role in the clean energy transformation that is happening across Michigan’s automotive sector,” said Brian Calka, vice president, Renewable Sales and Project Development, DTE Energy. “Through MIGreenPower, Dakkota and other companies are able to meet their sustainability goals while accelerating the development of new wind and solar projects in our state.”

MIGreenPower is one of the largest voluntary renewable energy programs in the United States and is moving DTE closer to its goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The company is currently Michigan’s largest producer of and investor in renewable energy, with 20 wind parks and 33 solar parks generating enough clean energy to power more than 750,000 homes. In DTE’s CleanVision Integrated Resource Plan filed last fall, the company proposed adding an additional 15,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2042, giving DTE enough clean energy to power more than 4 million homes.
