This year, the Board of the Nobel Foundation has seen no reason to reconsider its earlier decision not to invite the party leader of the Sweden Democrats to the Nobel festivities. The Nobel Prize is based on respect for science, culture, humanism and internationalism. This respect is also the basis for the achievements that are celebrated and highlighted when Nobel Prize laureates and guests from all over the world are invited to the Nobel Prize award ceremony and banquet on 10 December.
A number of official representatives of Swedish government institutions are traditionally invited to the events. For the Nobel Prize banquet, for example, these include the Speaker of Parliament, the Prime Minister, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Minister for Culture, the Minister for Finance and the Minister for Education, as well as the Chairperson of the Riksbank General Council. They are invited by virtue of their positions and regardless of party affiliation.
The Nobel Foundation invites ambassadors stationed in Sweden, but in view of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the Foundation has chosen not to invite the ambassadors of Russia and Belarus to the Nobel Prize award ceremony in Stockholm.
The Nobel Foundation will provide more information on the programme for the Nobel Prize award ceremony and banquet, Swedish and international guests and the seating at the Table of Honour at the beginning of the Nobel Week.
