Silent Earth är ett omtumlande och starkt uppfordrande verk. Med klimatkatastrofen som fond växer ett musikdramatiskt narrativ fram som leder lyssnaren från is till eld med en obeveklig kraft. Rehnqvist visar i verket sitt närmast totala behärskande av hantverket, och i det lyckas hon påvisa musikens kapacitet att samtidigt definiera tid och rum och ge en emotionell upplevelse, fri för var och en att tolka.
Texten till Silent Earth är författad av Kerstin Perski. Verket är en sambeställning av Eduard van Beinum Stichtung för NTR ZaterdagMatinee concert series och Sveriges Radio, Berwaldhallen och uruppfördes den 29 januari i Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, av Nederländska Radions Filharmoniska Orkester och Kör. Svensk premiär blir det under Östersjöfestivalen i Berwaldhallen den 27 augusti med Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester och Radiokören.
12 verk från de nordiska länderna är nominerade och vinnaren presenteras den 1 november i Helsingfors.

The rationale reads as follows:
Silent Earth is a bewildering and powerfully encouraging work. With the climate catastrophe as its foundation, a dramatic musical narrative emerges and leads the listener from ice into fire with a relentless force. In her work, Rehnqvist reveals her almost absolute mastery of the craft, and she manages to demonstrate the capacity of music to simultaneously define time and space, and provide an emotional experience, free for everyone to interpret.
The lyrics for Silent Earth were written by Kerstin Perski. The work has been jointly commissioned by Eduard van Beinum Stichtung for the NTR ZaterdagMatinee concert series and the Swedish Radio, and received its world premiere on 29 January at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, by the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir. The Swedish premiere will take place during the Baltic Sea Festival on 27 August at Berwaldhallen, Stockholm, performed by the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir.
Twelve works from the Nordic countries have been nominated for the 2022 Nordic Council Music Prize and the winner will be presented on 1 November in Helsinki.
