Savannah Sees All-Time Low Unemployment Rate
Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Savannah recorded an all-time low unemployment rate of 2.3 percent, down two-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 5.6 percent.
"We are continuing to see all-time low unemployment rates across the state along with job growth in all of our statistical areas,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “The focus now is getting more Georgians into the workforce to fill these critical positions, particularly as we gear up for a strong holiday employment season.”
The labor force increased in Savannah by 45 and ended the month with 199,415. That number is up 6,586 when compared to October of 2020.
Savannah finished the month with 194,744 employed residents. That number increased by 286 over the month and is up by 12,763 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Savannah ended October with 194,300 jobs. That number increased by 1,900 from September to October and is up by 12,100 when compared to this time last year.
The number of unemployment claims went down by 10 percent in Savannah in October. When compared to last October, claims were down by about 91 percent.
Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 6,722 active job postings in Savannah for October.
